In Japan, every 11th of November is Pocky Day!
Pocky is a famous biscuit stick coated with a different variety of flavours. The first Pocky was sold in 1966 and the very first Pocky was the chocolate coated one. Every since, many different flavours have been made such as strawberry, green tea, banana and so on! There’s even a Men’s Pocky for a mature and more manly flavour.
Pocky Day was actually originated from Pepero Day. Pepero Day is an observance in South Korea similar to Valentine’s Day. It is named after the Korean snack Pepero and held on November 11, since the date “11/11” resembles four sticks of Pepero. Pepero is sold in Korea in 1983 and is a copy product of Japan’s Pocky. Pepero gets a lot of money from Pepero Day so, probably Pocky wanted the same and started Pocky Day.
To celebrate the day, everyone let’s buy ourselves a pack of Pocky!
Currently, Pocky is being endorsed by the member of the famous pop idol group Arashi’s Ninomiya Kazunari. As seen on the official Pocky website right now, we can see Ninomiya on the front page holding a pack of Pocky.
Have a nice day with Pocky!
